| Ruby Pawl passed away on September 3, 2009 at age of 102 years young. She was born May 6, 1907 in Martinsville, Illinois. She grew up in southern Illinois and Indiana, enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and needlework. She will be especially remembered for her mushroom gravy, her grandmother’s cocoa cake, her hand made Valentine hearts and the many Afghans she crocheted for her family. One of her favorite memories was waving to Charles Lindbergh as he flew from St. Louis to New York. Ruby was the source of much sage advice to her family: “Do whatever you do with a happy heart.” “Enjoy the things in life and be happy” and her favorite, “Always walk on the sunny side of the street”. Ruby spread her own sunshine with her sparkling earrings, twinkling eyes and beautiful smile. Ruby was preceded in death by husband of 64 years, Phillip J. Pawl, nine siblings and her parents Jesse and Eva Graham. She is survived by a son, Dr. Ronald Pawl (Mary) of Lake Forest and Hawaii and daughter, Marcia Ries (Tom) of Edina, Minnesota; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Hill; nieces and nephews; caregivers, Yelena Slovobnik and Alicia Jemez and her many friends at Hawthorn Lakes, Vernon Hills where she lived for the past 15 years. Visitation will be 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 E. Vine Ave., Lake Forest, IL 60045. Funeral Mass 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E.
