Susan Smykal Griffith,77, of Highland Park and former longtime resident of Lake Forest, died February 26, 2010. Wife of D. Kendall Griffith; Mother of Kay (Michael) Murphy of Lake Forest, Kendall Griffith of Chicago; Grandmother of Brian and Christopher Murphy; Daughter of the late Lt. Gen. Richard & Helen Smykal; Sister of Ralph (Betty) Smykal of Wheaton, IL. Susan was active with the Woman's Board of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lake Forest Chapter of the Children's Home and Aid Society of Illinois, and Lawrence Hall Youth Services. She was a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. A former high school English teacher, Susan was an avid reader, loved the Art Institute of Chicago and was known for her thoughtful attention to family and friends. "Nana" will be dearly missed by her grandsons, Brian and Christopher Murphy. Funeral service and interment will be private.
