Raised in Linden, IA, Virginia received her B.A. from the University of Iowa (1938), had a fashion career from 1947 to 1979 (she designed and made the wedding wardrobe for Mrs. Nugent who’s son, Patrick Nugent married Luci Johnson, daughter of President Lyndon Johnson),was a member of the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) from the 1950’s to the present, organized the Women’s Cultural Exchange with China in 1973, was the first woman elected to the Lake Forest City Council serving from 1974-1979, was sworn in as an Illinois legislator serving in Springfield from 1979-1994, received an honorary Doctor of laws degree from Lake Forest College (1994), earned her Masters of liberal studies degree from Lake Forest College (1999) and in 2001, Vantage Press published her book Moving On - My life through the twentieth century and today.
Memorial service 1:00 P.M., Friday, June 11, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church, 244 E. Center Ave., Lake Bluff, IL 60044. No visitation, interment will be private in Lake
