| Barbara Buchanan Eldridge, 90, died peacefully at her Lake Forest home on
July 7, 2010. She is survived by two sons; Huntington Eldridge Jr. of Milwaukee, and Peter B. Eldridge of Lake Forest; a daughter, Anne W. Eldridge of Duxbury, MA; and two grandchildren.
Eldridge was born in January, 1920 in Lake Forest, IL. She graduated from the Masters School (Dobbs Ferry, NY) in 1938 and in 1948 she married Huntington Eldridge , who predeceased her in 1995.
Eldridge was a long-time member of the Women’s Athletic Club of Chicago and Onwentsia Club of Lake Forest and she was involved in many local organizations and charities, especially those benefiting the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest and Lake Forest Hospital. She spent many winters in Captiva, FL where she loved shelling and walking the beach.
Eldridge’s children remember her for her love of family and her devotion
to the Lake Forest community. “She filled our house with laughter and
song and regularly entertained us by singing the lyrics to ‘Oklahoma,’
‘Camelot,’ and ‘South Pacific,’ her daughter, Anne, remembers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest, where a memorial service for Eldridge will be held on Wednesday, July 14th at 11:00 a.m. following a 10:00 a.m. private burial service for family members.
