Edward C. McGowan, 79, of Lake Forest formerly of Northbrook, died April 15, 2012 after a five year battle with cancer. Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a “double eagle” graduate of Boston College High School and Boston College. He worked as a successful salesman for the industrial lighting companies Holophane and Johns Manville nearly three decades. He later utilized these sales skills in a second career as a realtor with Koenig & Strey in Lake Forest. Beloved husband of Joan nee Doubek; father of Cynthia (David) Martinez and David (Amy) McGowan. He was Papa to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather of one, all of whom he dearly adored. He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia (Al) Fairfield and brothers Robert (Marilyn) McGowan and Gerald McGowan. He is survived by brothers Richard (Joni) McGowan, John (Alice) McGowan, and brother-in-law Bill Doubek (Mary Kay). His 21 nieces, nephews, and their families all loved him dearly.
