Joseph “Joe” Dye of Lake Bluff passed away on April 19, 2012. He was born on July 13, 1928 in Anderson, Indiana and grew up on a nearby farm where his family raised beef cattle and he was active in 4-H. He graduated from Indiana University, Harvard Law School, and Chicago Theological Seminary and served as an officer in the Air Force. During the early part of his career, he practiced labor law first with Baker & Daniels in Indianapolis, and later with the Borg Warner Corporation in Chicago. After completing divinity school in 1983, he became a United Church of Christ minister, serving churches as both a called pastor in Boynton Beach, Florida and in Barrington, Rhode Island, and as an interim pastor in a number of churches in the greater Chicago area. During this period, he led numerous church tours of Scotland, England, China, Austria, and Germany. For 20 years, he was an active member of the Theatre of Western Springs as both an actor and a director and was a member of the Illinois Arts Council. In recent years, he has been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, Illinois and member of the Sanctuary Choir. He is survived by his wife, Sue Conolly Dye, four children, Frances Minchew, Janet Magee (Steve), Joseph “Jay” Dye, and Candace Etzler (Emil), two stepchildren, John Conolly (Sandra), and Suzanne Myers (Mike), seven grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Joseph, Charlie, Mark, Eli, and Kari, one great grandchild, Jason, and his former wife Sally Dye of Boynton Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by his grandson Jason. Memorial service 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest.
